U.S. Embassy closed Tuesday

INDONESIA: The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta announced it would be closed Tuesday to observe a national day of mourning for former president Gerald R. Ford, who died Dec. 26.

The closure follows President George W. Bush's issuance of an executive order excusing federal employees from work on Jan. 2 so they can join their fellow citizens in remembering the 38th president, the embassy said in statement.

""People with visa interview appointments scheduled for Jan. 2, 2007, should come to the embassy for their appointment at the same time on Jan. 3, while American citizens with emergencies may call the embassy and ask for the duty officer,"" it said. -- JP
