Grassroots miss British League matches

Soccer enthusiasts in Indonesia are disappointed as they can no longer watch British league matches in the 2007/2008 season for free. Now the live broadcasts are only aired by Astro -- a cable TV company from Malaysia.

Previously, British soccer events were presented by the Trans 7 channel, but with the broadcasting license now held by Astro, soccer fans wishing to enjoy weekend British league competitions will have to subscribe to Astro.

Football fans, mostly comprising ordinary people, will have no way of spending weekends watching local private TV programs, while screaming with admiration at the feats of Christiano Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Owen Hargreaves and many others.

This is the reality to be faced by low-income people in the country, who will find it hard to watch the tournaments involving Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

It seems difficult to expect Astro to cooperate with local private stations in order to air the same programs. This is business, in which the strong will win.
