JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said Monday it would monitor the disbursement of Rp 14.1 trillion (US$1.55 billion) in direct cash aid (BLT) due to start next month.

"We will use the KPK monitoring directorate to observe the BLT distribution. Should we find any indications of corruption, we will pursue it," said graft body chairman Antasari Azhar.

He said the body would go to the Attorney General's Office or police if it uncovered evidence of corruption that went beyond its authority to investigate.

On May 15, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono issued a presidential instruction for the monthly disbursement of Rp 100,000 to approximately 19.1 million lower income households to help them cope with planned fuel price increases.

The President ordered the attorney general, Indonesian Military chief, National Police chief, governors, regents and mayors to ensure the money reached the targeted households.-- JP
