RI President: Rallies should bring about solutions, not new problems

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono says rallies are normal in a democracy, but hopes the participants can provide solutions instead of creating new problems through anarchist behavior.

The recent massive protests are linked to increasing tensions in politics, said the President.

"This is an exciting year for politics, however, there must be self-control to ensure that our actions benefit the people," he said Wednesday.

Yudhoyono called on demonstrators to contextualize problems and leave behind any ulterior motives.

"I think demonstrators know the core of the problem, particularly the elites, economists and politicians who have been taking part in galvanizing the masses."

The President said he supported the student demonstrations calling for reforms to continue.

"I understand their call and I agree to continue with the reforms," Yudhoyono said.(*)

I agree with SBY... instead of creating more problems, why don't you do something and be productive?
