I am proud to be an Indonesian because Indonesia has an ex-president who was blind, but he led the fourth most populous country in the world. How cool is that? ROBBY

Other countries' motto is "what doesn't belong to us has to be taken good care of". But in my country, it seems that, "We can do whatever we want with it, it doesn't belong to us anyway!"

I'm proud of being an Indonesian as Indonesia has developed a lot and keeps on developing. Yet, there are times when I'm so ashamed, that I read the newspaper and notice Indonesia is the world's No. 1 in corruption and also one of the countries that the United Nations is most concerned about.

I'm proud to be Indonesian because of the colors of the cultures and traditions. There are Sundanese, Javanese, Bataknese and other cultures. But the thing that makes me proudest is poverty! Can each region wake up from poverty if there are still many kings of corruption alive?

They (foreigners) adore Indonesia's beautiful scenery and are amazed by how many islands we have. They love Indonesia, while Indonesians hate Indonesia. A little bit funny, right? Regarding National Awakening Day, I hope Indonesia will be awakened as soon as possible. Wake up guys and long live Indonesia.

I don't know if I'm proud or embarrassed being an Indonesian. I'm proud to be a part of a country with a great history, yet I'm embarrassed by all the horrible things Indonesians can do to one another just to be Rp 5,000 richer.

I'm proud to be an Indonesian and I love living in Indonesia because I can do whatever I want. I can throw rubbish anywhere. Besides, Jakarta is a beautiful city where there are floods everywhere so I can get many holidays. Traffic jams offer me an excuse if I am late.

Disasters and riots continuously ruin this country. It's an embarrassing country!!!

What is about Indonesia that makes me proud? Is it its democratic style? Is it the ease of running business and gaining profit here? Or its national song and symbols? No!!! It's the habit of Indonesian citizens throwing away rubbish everywhere, which makes us, Indonesian citizens, honored as the "KING OF A MESSY COUNTRY".

I'm happy to live in Indonesia when everything is below other countries, which gives me a big chance to be the first person to change Indonesia.

I'm proud of being an Indonesian. That's why I'm supporting the Visit Indonesia 2008 campaign by showing the world about how good and beautiful Indonesia is and how polite Indonesians are.

One hundred years have already passed, but I think Indonesia is still sleeping. When will they wake up from the nightmare?

I'm not proud of nor embarrassed by Indonesia. It might have many natural resources and be rich in culture, but starvation and poverty are obviously pathetic.

My pride of Indonesia has vanished because of rampant corruption. You can do anything with money, without it you're totally nothing.

I am proud to be an Indonesian because my country has a lot to offer to the world, from tourism to the economic sector. But, I am also embarrassed by the fact that this country has one of the highest corruption levels in the world.

I was born in Indonesia and I'm proud to be an Indonesian. Indonesia is a beautiful country, with many cultures and natural resources. Although there are many problems in my country, I've never regretted being an Indonesian. I live in Jakarta and Jakarta is a great city. I really enjoy my life in Jakarta and I'll always love Indonesia.

Put away your earplugs and open your window, government! You have to see what is happening to us and hear what our problems are. I'm embarrassed that our government doesn't care about their own country. They just suck up all the money that is supposed to be used to develop this country. After you see and hear our problems, then you have to do something!

Since Indonesian people have a very low appreciation for others, let's start encouraging one another to build up a strong generation in the future!
ELLA
Jakarta
Why should I be proud of being an Indonesian? In reality, every year Indonesia is just getting more and more ruined because of the people's own stupidity and egoism. So, why should I be proud of being an Indonesian?
CDELINE
Jakarta
I'm not really proud of Indonesia. Just look at our sportsmen! Soooo lame. We got riots from soccer. We got nothing from basketball. We even got beaten by China in badminton! And we know nothing about other sports. Work a bit, Indonesia!
RYAN
Jakarta
I love Indonesia and I am always proud of it. The better I get to know Indonesia's dark sides, the more I feel sympathetic toward the country. In my eyes, Indonesia is just suffering from a chronic disease which cannot be cured unless we, as Indonesians, come together to rebuild the country from the very beginning.

I'm embarrassed of Indonesia for having massive traffic jams every day but I'm proud of all Indonesian drivers that always make it on time, and let's not forget "the bribing of the police" part when they're asked to show their license for speeding.
JESSLYN
Jakarta
Indonesia's own perspective, like "Indonesia is already beautiful and rich with many natural resources", is what makes them not strive to develop.
BEATRICE N
Jakarta
What reform? Reform died a long time ago in Indonesia. Rich people get richer and poor people get poorer. Corruption is worse than ever with the difference that now you pay, but do not often get what you pay for. There is no reform in any field any more.
SAMI

When Indonesian culture was claimed by other countries, that was very startling. But it makes us, Indonesian people, more aware about our culture and about respecting this country. That makes me proud.

I am proud to be an Indonesian because we have many natural resources, but we need to use them wisely.

The only thing that makes me proud of Indonesia is its mission. It says, "Increase the amount of pollution, corruption and starvation!"
ELFI

I don't even think that Indonesia will wake up tomorrow! It will sleep longer than a 100 years and continue to be lethargic.
YESIKHA

Good morning, Indonesia! (for the 100th time) Now it's time to actually do something right.

I don't think it's worth being called "awakening" day as if it was a "bad dream". I think we are still living in a nightmare.

I'm extremely proud of being an Indonesian ... with all the corruption and hunger problem, what's not to be proud of?

Let's revive our ancestors' spirit of independence in the young generation! Make it a generation with impact!!

I'm obviously proud of being an Indonesian! Corruption is in my blood and poverty is my favorite! How cool is that?!?!
STACEY

Proud about what? Can I be proud of the corruption or all the sad news? I am hoping that this year will be a true awakening for Indonesia.
EDBERT

I feel embarrassed being an Indonesian because we have lower levels of morality than other countries. Riots and criminals are everywhere. How can I live in this kind of country?
KEVIN F
Jakarta
For 100 years, Indonesians have always been naive, they have never truly united. We are "old" and I think it's time to wake up and achieve success.
BILLY

The variety of cultures can make us proud of this country. The variety of tribes and languages make Indonesia rich. The rate of corruption is the most embarrassing.
TIKA

I am proud of Indonesia, because Indonesia is so polluted that even the UN is afraid. And instead of cleaning up Indonesia, let's all just watch Indonesia against Bayern Munchen in Gelora Bung Karno and trash the place!
