Religion is the private sphere. It has nothing to do in the public legal system. Religious people have no basis to tell others what is right or wrong. They should keep their rules and apply them to themselves.
Rule in the sharia for the thief is to cut the hand. What I know is that all humans have stolen in their lives. So all those who want the sharia should start by cutting off their hands for the example, then I will start listening to them.

Timor Leste and us -- July 16, p6
SBY is effectively conferring a presidential pardon on any Indonesian guilty of criminal activity in opposing the independence of Timor Leste from the Republic of Indonesia.
He has the authority and this sends the warning to any other group in Indonesia seeking their own independence, that they will have no legal protection from their own efforts to achieve statehood.
State terror is alive and well in Indonesia. So look out Acehnese, Balinese, Papuans, etc.

Andrea Hirata -- May 4, p. 3
Do you know what? I think Andrea is the best novel writer in Indonesia since he successfully wrote about his experience with such beautiful words and brought us inside it to feel what he felt. I hope that I can meet him.

I love Andrea's works because it's simply delivered, whole heartedly. The language use is so close to our Malay language in Malaysia, thus I couldn't stop myself continue reading the two laskar pelangi and sang pemimpi.
The stories are so attractive even to the small part of incidents. I wonder how could I reach the other two of his books because I only got the first two in my country.

I'm totally falling in love with his "masterpiece" I just finished reading two of his books, Laskar Pelangi and Sang Pemimpi. During my reading, I could be feel sad and cry, feel happy and smile or laugh (until my friends could hear my voice in other rooms), feel ashamed of myself and then feel wistful.
Wondering how can he get all that "crazy" ideas and terminology and put it there. Then I try to imagine the place and situation, Ikal's friends and Ikal himself. (Is he you, Andrea?)
Keep on producing great masterpieces for Indonesia, because it seems that we loss the spirit. I hope someday I can meet Andrea Hirata.
