Jakarta gets new military commander

Jakarta Military Command chief Maj. Gen. J. Suryo Prabowo on Tuesday handed over his leadership to Maj. Gen. Darpito Pudyastungkoro in a ceremony led by Army chief of staff Gen. Agustadi Sasongko Purnomo.

Suryo has been promoted to be the Army deputy chief of staff.

Darpito was previously the Diponegoro Military Command chief overseeing Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.

The Jakarta Military Command oversees Jakarta as well as parts of Banten and West Java provinces bordering the capital.

In his remark, Agustadi asked Darpito to maintain and improve coordination with other parties to maintain stability in the capital and its surrounding areas -- "the barometer for stability of national security in general". (****)
