Your comments on the election of Made Mangku Pastika as Bali governor and what he should do to keep Bali a leading international tourist destination
Pastika needs to focus on the environment and infrastructure. Bali's numbers are up but the island is not ready for it. Traffic is getting abysmal during rush hour, similar to Jakarta; sewage is floating on beaches and in rivers; building laws are not enforced, and blackouts have become more common; it goes on and on.
At the same time everything is getting more expensive. Once the myth of Bali as an island dream of culture and an exotic environment is drowned in greed and plastic bags you can burn tourism during the next great cremation in Ubud!
Hope Pastika will fight the terror of greed and environmental destruction as vigorously as he fought terrorism!

Bali has already been a leading international tourist destination. What is important is to create a model that can maintain its sustainability as a tourist destination.
Introduce this model to other provinces, so Bali can become the leading province in promoting tourist destinations in other Indonesian provinces.

Bali needs to improve its infrastructure: roads, power and clean water. Bali faces an unsustainable future at the moment. It needs to embrace green technology in addressing its future.

Three subjects that should become his priorities. First, for sure keep the island safe. Second, keep beaches and streets clean. Third, please transform and make the Kuta Beach promenade a nice, clean, walkable and nicely lighted beachside stroll for families and young people.
I think these three things will raise the bar on competition.

The new governor should concentrate on promoting the rich Balinese culture as well as improving the quality of beach resorts for sport and leisure activities.
And at the same time, put less stress on cheap "nightlife" for tourists. In other words: the promotion should be primarily directed toward upgrading products needed by tourists.

Step up rubbish collection; remove old and illegal rubbish dumps along roads; develop a plan to free congested streets which have already annoyed pedestrians; and plant larger trees to replace cut down trees (see Jl. Raya in Ubud).
