JAKARTA: A woman was shot in the abdomen by a thief Thursday morning before a crowd of women buying vegetables.
Ilma Djubaedah, 50, was shopping at a vendor's cart in North Jakarta's Kelapa Gading Timur when a man on a motorbike stopped and pretended to buy vegetables, her husband Ebo Rusbana (51) told kompas.com.
The man suddenly grabbed Ilma's 20-gram gold necklace, while she tried to fend him off. The thief then took out a pistol and shot the woman in the stomach before making off with her necklace. --JP

Dear BB-Leo,
Stealing is the crime here, not the wearing of a necklace. The thief is responsible. He is wrong, not the women. You can ask yourself if it is smart to wear an expensive necklace in places like that, but ultimately it is up to the lady to decide. I wouldn't go as far that the lady was asking for it more or les (as you suggest). Do you also believe that women who wear make-up or a skirt are asking to be raped?

Lady concerned should leave her gold necklace at home when going to the Market. Such items are an attraction to thieves. What is the point of showing off what valuables you have? This is like a mobile phone on display.
