JAKARTA: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked the West Kalimantan administration to make development of the border between Indonesia and Malaysia a priority.
The President told West Kalimantan Governor Cornelis MH and Vice Governor Christiandy Sanjaya on Friday to accelerate the development program in order to improve the well-being of people living in border areas.
"There are wide disparities in living standards between our people in the border areas and those of the Malaysian people, and the President has asked us to speed up development," Cornelis said after his first official meeting with Yudhoyono since taking office in January.
To improve access and enhance economic development in the area, the provincial administration has planned to build a 847-kilometer road to connect Paloh and Kapuas Hulu. The project will cost around Rp 4.7 trillion. -- JP
