The Australia-Indonesia Institute is inviting applicants to submit funding proposals for projects to boost relations between the countries.

A press statement from the Australian Embassy said Tuesday the projects should promote a growing and deepening relationship between Australia and Indonesia.

Both individuals and organizations are allowed to apply for grants, it added.

The institute's board is scheduled to visit Jakarta and Surabaya in November 2008 as part of celebrations to mark the group's 20th anniversary.

"Over the past two decades, the institute has fulfilled a unique and vital role in fostering friendship and understanding between our two nations," Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer said in the statement.

"In the new era of Australia-Indonesia relations, with deeper and broader engagement across many sectors, the work of the institute is more relevant and important than ever," he added.
