Dozens the National Awakening Party (PKB) supporters of Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid camp attacked the campaign office of his rival Muhaimin Iskandar in Purwakarta, West Java, Antara news agency reported.
The mass, riding motorcycles and cars, tore banners, flags, posters and other Muhaimin-related materials at the PKB building. The supporters were on their way to a rally at the local General Election Commission (KPUD) office, when they attacked the building en route.
Later at the KPUD office, the local PKB chairman of the Gus Dur camp, Agus Marzuki, demanded the commission be decisive during the verification process of legislative candidates of PKB from either camp.
"KPUD have to be decisive. Choose one or both, or wait for a legal settlement on the matters," he said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
PKB, the fifth-largest faction in the House of Representatives, has been having internal conflict, which began earlier this year when Gus Dur dismissed Muhaimin as party leader. Muhaimin, who is Gus Dur's nephew, challenged the decision. (dre)
