DIN SYAMSUDDIN: (JP/R. Berto Wedhatama)
JAKARTA: Moved by the newly launched film Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Warrior), chairman of the Muhammadiyah Islamic organization Din Syamsuddin is urging all members of Muhammadiyah to watch the movie.
"It's not only the novel that is strong in its moral message; the movie is excellent. Therefore I request all Muhammadiyah members to see the movie," Din told reporters after a screening of the film in Jakarta on Monday.
Din said he was impressed by the roles of two characters in the movie -- the head of Muhammadiyah Gantong elementary school, Harfan, who was played by Ikranegara, and teacher Muslimah, who was played by Cut Mini.
"Indonesia should (be proud) of having educators such as pak Harfan and ibu Muslimah. They really dedicated themselves to education and their profession," said Din.
"Members of Muhammadiyah should be proud of people like this, which are now rarely found in the country. They were so sincere, dedicating their lives to education for children."
Laskar Pelangi, a film by Riri Riza and Mira Lesmana, is based on the bestselling novel of the same title by Andrea Hirata. -- JP
