The Tangerang police has shot dead one of two members of a long-wanted motor cycle theft gang for resisting arrest in Pondok Aren district, Tangerang regency.
The Tangerang police detetive chief Comr. Dewa Wijaya said on Thursday that officers arrested two of the gang members identified as Keken and Jaya alias Wanda on Wednesday afternoon. Two other members Ujang and Ajo are still at large.
“The suspects led officers to find the hideplace of Ujang and Ajo but Wanda suddenly tried to resist officers underway and ignored two warning shots,” he said, adding that the suspect died en route to hospital.
Dewa said Keken had testified that his gang had stolen dozens of motor cycles from motorists on streets in Ciputat, Pamulang, Pondok Aren, Serpong and Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta.
“The modus used by the gang is that they usually forced passing motorists to stop at quite places by pointing the gun and took over the motorcycle,” he said.
