House still deliberates on porn bill, despite a two faction boycott

House of Representative speaker said the House would resume deliberation on the passing of the Anti-Pornography bill despite the absence of two House factions.

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Prosperous Peace Party (PDS) have both boycotted the controversial draft legislation.

"The decision process will continue," Agung Laksono of the Golkar Party said, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com on Thursday.

"The result of that meeting has equal legal power to the deliberation meeting (bamus), and it must be upheld," Laksono said. (amr)

Well here we go....if this ill thought out piece of legislation gets passed into law this week then I can only wonder at the social upheaval this will cause.
Indonesia is wonderful in it's uniqueness, why oh why do legislators want to turn back the clock to the middle ages and repress the population the like of which is only normally found in certain Gulf states. Will the silent majority please make your voices heard.

For those of us wondering why the House 'DPR' is so keen to hurriedly deliberate this bill one only need look at how it has managed to divert the publics attention away from the many corruption cases involving legislators. But once people realize that 8 out of 10 factions supported the bill I wouldn't be surprised to see PDIP do exceptionally well in the next elections.
