Hey there, hepcats and kittens! Welcome to yet another heaping dose of musical soul food. Thanks again for all the notes. You guys rock. Now, grab your eating utensils! It's Reverb time!
International
Hard Rock Cafes have been battling hunger for years with heftily priced bar food, but parent company Hard Rock International has decided to go a step further and assemble a hunger-fighting compilation disc featuring Bruce Springsteen, My Morning Jacket, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, John Lennon, the Charlatans, Starsailor and Avril Lavigne, among others.
SERVE3 follows up last year's SERVE2 collection and features quite a few exclusive or otherwise previously unreleased tracks. It comes out Nov. 4, and will be available for purchase digitally or in physical form at Hard Rock restaurants and hotels worldwide.
The new comp is part of Hard Rock's "Imagine There's No Hunger" campaign, which also includes "a limited-edition bracelet, pin and holiday ornament", according to a press release. Proceeds from the sales of all these things will benefit World Hunger Year (www.worldhungeryear.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty around the globe.
Remember how teen drama The O.C. made indie pop teddy bears Death Cab For Cutie into mainstream celebrities simply by writing one of the main characters as their biggest fan? Well, get ready for that to happen to a crapload of other bands. Josh Schwartz, the genius (or shameless hack, depending on how you feel about high school soap operas) behind The O.C. and Gossip Girl has a new show in the works, and it's all about music.
Along with executive producer/music supervisor Alex Patsavas (responsible for picking the tunes on The O.C. and Gossip Girl as well as Grey's Anatomy), Schwartz will introduce the world to Rockville, CA, which will premiere this web-only program on TheWB.com in 2009. Every week, a new band performs a set at the fake rock club Rockville, while all kinds of drama happens around them.
The first bands slated to appear are two of my current playlist favorites Lykke Li and Passion Pit. Also appearing are Frightened Rabbit, the Kooks, the Duke Spirit, Eagles of Death Metal, Earlimart, the Little Ones, Phantom Planet, White Lies and Nico Stai.
According to a press release, "In addition to viewing full episodes, TheWB.com community will be able to stream and download exclusive tracks from the show, and watch videos, interviews and other 'Rockville, CA' extra content at TheWB.com when the series launches." No start date is set for "Rockville, CA" just yet, but shooting has already begun in Los Angeles. Said Patsavas about the show, "Fictional or not, we are going to make 'Rockville' the hottest indie music venue on the Web."
