JAKARTA: A former student of law at the University of Indoensia is gathering evidence to prove she was raped a year ago by her lecturer, her lawyer says.
"We are still collecting (the evidence)," Santi Dewi, the 22-year-old student's lawyer, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com on Saturday.
The rape allegedly took place on May 23, 2007 at the lecturer's apartment. At the time, the lecturer, TN, was the student's undergraduate thesis councelor.
The suspect was suspended by the university on Oct. 22, two weeks after the case was reported to the police.
"We suspended him because of the ongoing police investigation," university spokeswoman Devie Rahmawati told The Jakarta Post on Saturday, adding that the university had also established a team to clarify the matter.
Devie said the former student was the only person to report sexual assault involving TN to the university.
Santi, however, said she believed her client was not the only student victimized by TN. She said her client was often sexually harassed by TN at his law firm in Central Jakarta.
Santi said her client had kept silent for more than a year after the incident due to depression. -- JP
