JAKARTA: The Corruption Court will hand down its verdict Wednesday on two former Bank Indonesia (BI) senior officials implicated in the embezzlement of central bank money.
"We have adjourned the trial until Nov. 12 to hear the verdict on the two defendants," said presiding judge Moefri during the trial of former BI legal bureau head Oey Hoey Tiong and former BI Surabaya office chief Rusli Simanjuntak here Friday.
Friday's session heard the defense's statement.
Oey's and Rusli's lawyers insisted the defendants had been following orders from the BI board of governors and that they could not be held accountable for the theft.
Some Rp 100 billion (US$9.2 million) of BI's Indonesian Banking Development Foundation (YPPI) was disbursed to bribe House of Representatives legislators and to finance legal defense for five former BI senior officials implicated in a different graft case. -- JP
