AGO: Bali bombers executed at 00.15
The Jakarta Post | Sun, 11/09/2008 2:49 AM | Headlines
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) confirmed at 02:40 a.m. on Sunday that the death penalty for the three Bali bombers, Amrozi, Ali Gufron or Mukhlas and Imam Samudra, had been carried out.
"They were executed by a firing squad ... at 00:15 a.m.," AGO spokesperson Jasman Pandjaitan said at a press conference in Jakarta.
Jasman said autopsies had been carried out to confirm their deaths and the corpses had been bathed according to Sharia Law by a family member.
Amrozi's younger brother, Ali Fauzi, was allowed a last-minute entry to Nusakambangan Island to be in charge of the bathing process. Earlier on Thursday the Cilacap Prosecutor's Office said it had assigned nine local Ulemas to witness the execution.
Jasman added that more details would be made public later on Sunday. (and)

its amazing to see how this long road performed such a terrible ending.
if these men were guilty then i wish they would have been sufferred like hell before the death came to them.i personaly knew afew of the death victim.
its just that i am not certain to the accusation . moreover knowing the indonesian police capability in arresting them just a couple days after the 1st bali bomb. if they were so deep into all of the investigation why cant they prevent?
god knows what the truth is.

The AGO had always looked nervous whenever it came to Bali bombers. thus, the so-late announcement of the execution didn't surprise me. I think the CNN just has good technology and stuff to cover the event, because local stations were just as 'blank' as their newspaper journalist fellows when covering the execution. i didnt see any good reporting on tv at the time the execution was said to occur. in metro tv for example the reporter said things were usual at 00:15, the time of the execution. The AGO, at the other hand, said only the police knew exactly when the execution was going to be carried out. it said the police made the schedule of the execution, not AGO. the AGO stated that it only recommend to the police about the right time. Meanwhile the (central java?) police said the time of the execution was under the authority of AGO. ah well, each one blamed another. they just thought we the public were fool or what.

I was shocked to see Jasman Pandjaitan still pretending to be confused and pretending not to know anything while in the mean time even CNN aired the news of the executions. That pretty well describes the incompetent the AGO was during this whole circus.
He was probably irritated it was not him who could tell the news first and he acted like a little child on TV.
Because of their own childish behave in coming out with information reporters had to bribe people from inside Nusabambangan to get the information.
Maybe a lesson for AGO the next time. This is 2008 now, not the middle ages.

Great news. The Indonesian Government has sent a clear message - killing innocent people is wrong, no matter what perverted religious excuse you use, and you will be killed in turn as a common criminal.
Congratulations to all the major Islamic groups who have also condemned the bombers actions... now let's stop Bashir or anyone else who tries to perpetuate this misguided hatred so opposed by 99.9% if Indonesia's peace loving population.

Why did they think that they had to murder innocent people, including many of their own people in the name of God? God may be great, but these three are, were, the dregs of mankind and I hope they suffered.

The duplicity of the Indonesian Ulema is deceitful in a manner to malign the teachings of Islam for establishing peace in society. Bali bombers deserved capital punishment because they killed innocents in a peaceful country. We recite the Holy Quran daily and need no Ulema to tell us that for them the verses have different meaning.
Holy Quran commands the established governments to establish peace in society. God Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “Whosoever killed a person – unless it be for killing a person or for creating disorder in the land – it shall be as if he had killed all mankind” (Al Maidah, Verse 32) "...You must avenge a killing (murder) with equal measure..." (Al-Baqara, Verse 178) and there are many other verses which demand the established government to avenge the killing of a person or persons with capital punishment in order to establish peace in the society. It is ironic that so called people of faith are the perpetrators of such crimes. I wish and pray that Indonesian society may be able to realize the true teachings of Islam and break off with such war mongering killer Ulema. Kind regards, Mirza Imran A. Karim, Sydney, Australia

Intellectually I do not believe in capital punishment.
Viscerally I hope that the first few bullets did not kill them and that they suffered.
Intellectually I do not believe in Hell.
Viscerally I wish I did.
I think the world is a slightly better place this morning.
