Rory McIlroy stayed well clear atop the world golf rankings despite missing the cut at the Irish Open last week.

It was the second tournament in succession that the Northern Irishman failed to make it to the weekend.

But he won the the event he played prior to that and he already enjoyed a comfortable lead in the rankings having won the British Open and the PGA Championship last year and finished fourth in this year's Masters.

The winner at Augusta National, Jordan Spieth, was clear in second place despite a poor showing in the Byron Nelson event at the weekend where he tied for Americans dominated the top 20 with 12 players included.
