The appointment occurred as the government saw state revenue collection decline by 12 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 810.5 trillion (US$49.62 billion) in first four months of this year from Rp 924.92 trillion in same period last year.
he Finance Ministry has installed three new high-ranking officials to fill in the institution's upper echelon line-up, among whom are a freshly retired Indonesian Military (TNI) officer alongside a graduate of semi-military high school Taruna Nusantara (Tarnus).
Two of the new names inducted into the ministry’s main lineup were Lt. Gen. (ret.) Djaka Budhi Utama as the customs and excise director general and Tarnus alumnus Bimo Wijayanto as taxation director general. President Prabowo Subianto summoned the two to the State Palace this past Tuesday.
Djaka replaced Askolani, who was moved to lead the fiscal balance directorate general, while Bimo replaced Suryo Utomo, who got transferred to head financial technology and intelligence body.
The third was Masyita Crystallin, as the director general of financial sector stability and development, a freshly created post for Sri Mulyani’s former expert staffer during her last ministerial term under former president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“We have understood the hope of the country’s leader, the state revenue must increase, the tax ratio has to go up, service to taxpayers has to improve and as well transparency and governance have to be fixed,” said Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said in her speech on Friday.
The appointment of Djaka and Bimo occurred as the government saw state revenue collection decline by 12 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 810.5 trillion (US$49.62 billion) in first four months of this year from Rp 924.92 trillion in same period last year.
Djaka’s appointment raised eyebrows as critics pointed to Prabowo’s growing reliance on military figures to fill key civilian posts, while others questioned his active military status.
