he Indonesian government has revoked the citizenship of former Navy personnel Satria Arta Kumbara, who allegedly joined Russian military operations in Ukraine after deserting his post in the Indonesian Armed Forces.
Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas said Satria’s alleged involvement in a foreign military provided sufficient grounds for the government to revoke his Indonesian citizenship.
“Article 31 of the 2007 Government Regulation on Citizenship states that an Indonesian citizen automatically loses their citizenship if they serve in a foreign military without presidential approval,” he said on Wednesday.
Supratman said that the Law Ministry and the Foreign Ministry will soon announce Satria's citizenship revocation through the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow.
"The Indonesian ambassador for Russia will inform him that he has lost his citizenship," he added.
