Consulate general in Johor Bahru repatriates another 50 Indonesians to Batam

From January to August, KJRI Johor Bahru has facilitated the repatriation and deportation of 4,156 Indonesians from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to Batam, Riau Islands.

T

he Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, facilitated the repatriation of 50 Indonesian nationals, mostly migrant workers, on Thursday.

The 50 Indonesians were repatriated on a ferry from Stulang Laut International Terminal in Johor Bahru to the Batam Centre International Ferry Terminal in Batam, Riau Islands.

Forty-nine of those repatriated, 18 men, 29 women and two boys, had been detained at the Pekan Nenas Immigration Detention Depot in Johor. An unemployed female migrant worker living in the KJRI’s temporary shelter in Johor Bahru was also included. 

Two KJRI Johor Bahru service and protection task force officials accompanied the process, which began at 11 a.m. local time (10 a.m. Jakarta time).

On arrival in Batam, the repatriated persons were met by the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Post (P4MI), immigration officials, the Port Health Office and others, to undergo further checks before returning to their places of origin.

KJRI service and protection task force coordinator Jati H Winarto said that the repatriation was a part of Program M, a two-year program between the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and Indonesian diplomats in Peninsular Malaysia.
