outh Sulawesi Police have imposed disciplinary and ethics sanctions against two officers after questioning eight witnesses in the death of a junior police officer, Second Brig. Dirja Pratama.
South Sulawesi Police chief Insp. Gen. Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro said the two officers were suspected of trying to cover up the violent actions of the main suspect, identified only as Second Brig. PN.
“We’ve an officer who cleaned blood stains to cover up the incident,” he said at South Sulawesi Police headquarters in Makassar on Thursday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
“Then we also received information that there was another officer who saw the incident but did not report it.”
Therefore, both officers faced disciplinary action for code of ethics violations, he added.
Djuhandhani said the Internal Affairs Directorate (Propam) has yet to find direct evidence that the eight witnesses were involved in the violence. Propam, however, is continuing to investigate the roles of each officer at the crime scene, the barracks of South Sumatra Police’s Samapta Directorate.
Dirja was declared dead in hospital on Sunday. The police maintain that he died as a result of physical abuse in the barracks.
