T

he Central Java administration is ramping up efforts to repair damaged roads across the province in preparation for the millions of travelers expected during next month’s mass Idul Fitri exodus.

Governor Ahmad Luthfi said that there are currently 4,817 potholes along 2,200 kilometers of roads in Central Java, caused by road aging and extreme weather conditions.

“All of these have been included in priority repairs as part of our commitment to provide fast and effective public service,” Luthfi said.

Head of the Central Java Public Works Agency, Hanggar Budi Anggoro, added that authorities have patched 14,445 potholes across the province since the start of the year. The agency aims to complete repairs on the remaining roads by March 7, roughly two weeks before the holiday season.

Hanggar explained that more extensive road renovations this year are limited because his agency’s budget was significantly reduced following central government cuts to regional transfer funds.

“Last year we allocated Rp1 trillion for road repairs, but this year the budget has been reduced to Rp 320 billion. Despite the significant cut, we are working as efficiently as possible,” he said on Friday, as quoted by Tribunnews.
