S

everal regions in Aceh and North Sumatra have been hit by panic fuel buying in the past few days after Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that Indonesia only has a 21-day of fuel stock following the United States-Israel war on Iran.

The statement was widely circulated through chain messages over messaging applications and social media leading to the panic fuel buying.

Residents flocked to several fuel stations across North Sumatra, such as the cities of Medan and Tebingtinggi as well as regencies of Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai. A similar situation unfolded in Aceh.

Panic fuel buying has caused lines hundreds of meters long in several fuel stations from Wednesday through Saturday evening at fuel stations in North Sumatra.

Responding to the panic buying, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Northern Sumatra Region has ensured that the fuel stock for Medan and other regions in North Sumatra is in safe condition.

Zainuddin, a resident of Padang Bulan sub-district, Medan Baru district, said Pertamina’s guarantee was not proven because in the past few days many fuel stations in Medan had run out of Pertalite gasoline and Solar diesel fuels. He said he had to move from one fuel station to another to buy Solar.
