ndonesia and China have agreed to strengthen their ties after President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with China’s Premier Li Qiang that culminated in the signing of a dozen partnership agreements and marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Prabowo received Li at the State Palace on Sunday with a formal procession, complete with the playing of both countries’ national anthems, a 19-gun salute and an inspection of the honor guard.
"This is a very important visit in our opinion because it confirms the good and close friendship between China and Indonesia, and more importantly between the Chinese people and the Indonesian people," Prabowo said in his opening remarks during the bilateral meeting, as quoted from a release from the Presidential Secretariat.
The President said that Indonesia is looking to strengthen the 75-year-old diplomatic ties between Jakarta and Beijing even further, not only to serve each country’s interests but also for regional stability and development.
“We see this relationship as something that will bring good, not only to our two countries, but to the entire Asian region and perhaps even the world," Prabowo added.
Premier Li, in response, acknowledged the historical ties between Indonesia and China and affirmed Beijing’s commitment to deepen cooperation with Jakarta in light of increasingly complex global challenges.
“China is prepared to collaborate with Indonesia to fulfill our shared mission and vision,” Li said in his remarks. “Together, we will tackle risks and challenges, promote mutual development and improve the well-being of our people.”
