Jakarta and Seoul have signed two major forestry agreements to strengthen cooperation on sustainable forest management and forest fire mitigation, as Indonesia braces for heightened wildfire risks this year.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni and his South Korean counterpart, Park Eunsik, inked the deals in Seoul on Wednesday, shortly after President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the East Asian country.
The first agreement, the Framework Arrangement on Cooperation on Priority Programs in Forestry, covers initiatives ranging from sustainable forest management and mangrove and peatland restoration to ecotourism development and the expansion of forest-based carbon markets.
