ndonesia has begun preparations for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned state visit next month, with Foreign Minister Sugiono visiting his Indian counterpart in New Delhi over the weekend to discuss cooperation between the two countries.

Sugiono met Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday in the Indian capital for the eighth Indonesia-India Joint Commission Meeting (JCM), where the two sides exchanged views on ways to improve cooperation across trade, food security, energy and maritime affairs.

The meeting also served as a platform to discuss preparations for Modi's upcoming visit to Jakarta, which is scheduled for July, according to Sugiono.

"The planned visit reflects a commitment to further deepening bilateral relations between the two countries and delivering tangible benefits to the people of both countries,” Sugiono said on Instagram.

Modi’s planned visit to Indonesia will reciprocate President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to India in January last year and mark the latest engagement between the two leaders, who first met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil in November 2024.

Prabowo’s trip last year, his first state visit to India since taking office in 2024, saw him hold bilateral talks with Modi and attend India's 76th Republic Day celebrations as chief guest. The two leaders also pledged to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, including defense and trade.
