The extension would connect 12 stations in key areas, including Ciputat, Pondok Cabe, Pamulang and Serpong, along a 22.6-kilometer elevated track.
he Transportation Ministry has unveiled a proposal to extend the Jakarta MRT’s north-south line into South Tangerang city in Banten, outlining its development potential in a project document presented at the International Conference on Infrastructure, which kicked off on Wednesday.
The extension is estimated to cost US$1.25 billion, covering the land acquisition, infrastructure construction and procurement of rolling stock.
Once operational, the project is expected to require around $11.7 million a year for operations and maintenance.
The government has pledged to facilitate the project with the release of state-owned land and with other forms of non-fiscal support to accelerate its progress.
According to the plan, the southern terminus of the MRT, which currently ends at Lebak Bulus Station, would then be Pondok Cabe Station, with the line extension to pass through key areas such as Ciputat and Gaplek.
The line would also be connected to an intersecting line running westward to Rawa Buntu Station in Serpong, cutting through Pamulang and Babakan.
The extension would connect 12 stations along a 22.6-kilometer elevated track, with all but one located in South Tangerang, and is expected to serve up to 204,119 passengers a day by 2030.
