The East Java Police have named Jan Hwa Diana, a business owner from Surabaya, as a suspect in the alleged withholding of graduation certificates of dozens of her employees, in a case that has sparked widespread online outrage and led to a nationwide ban of such practices.
East Java Police’s Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation, Adj. Sr. Comr. Suryono stated that authorities decided to officially name Diana as a suspect after questioning 25 witnesses and conducting raids at her company and private residence.
"We found the graduation certificates of 108 employees at her home in Dukuh District, Surabaya," he said on Thursday, as quoted by Kompas.
He stated that the police are still investigating Diana’s motives for withholding the certificates, and that more suspects could be named as the investigation progresses.
