he Foreign Ministry continues to advocate for an Indonesian citizen identified as a social media influencer with the initials AP who was sentenced to seven years in prison in Myanmar on terrorism-related charges, amid mounting pressure from lawmakers for stronger diplomatic efforts to secure his release.

The ministry’s citizen protection director Judha Nugraha explained in a statement on Tuesday that AP was arrested by Myanmar authorities on Dec. 20, 2024, on allegations of entering the country illegally and holding meetings with armed groups classified as unlawful under Myanmar law.

The 33-year-old was later charged under the Anti-Terrorism Law, the 1947 Immigration Act and the Unlawful Associations Act.

Following a court trial, AP was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison. He is currently serving his sentence at Insein Prison in Yangon, one of Myanmar’s most notorious detention facilities.

“Since his arrest, the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon has taken several measures to protect his rights, including submitting diplomatic notes to Myanmar authorities, providing consular access and legal assistance during interrogation and facilitating communication between AP and his family,” Judha said.

He went on to say that, with the conviction now legally binding, the Foreign Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon have also pursued non-litigation avenues, including facilitating a request for clemency submitted by AP’s family.
