resident Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to hold a meeting with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Muhammad bin Salman (MBS) on Wednesday evening during which the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to improve service for haj pilgrims coming from Indonesia.
Prabowo landed at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Tuesday night for for a working visit to the Middle Eastern kingdom, his first visit to the country after being sworn in as president in October last year.
The President made a stopover in Jeddah on his way to the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, scheduled for July 5.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that one of key agendas for Prabowo during his visit to Saudi Arabia was to hold a high level meeting with MBS to discuss ways to improve services for Indonesian haj pilgrims, including the plan to open the so-called "Indonesian Village" in Mecca.
"The President does plan to talk about efforts to improve the service for our pilgrims," Prasetyo told reporters.
Prasetyo said that Prabowo also planned to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, including the tension between Israel and Iran as well as the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Separately, deputy chairman for the newly-inaugurated Haj Management Agency (BP Haji) Dahnil Azhar Simanjuntak said that significant resources would be needed to start the construction of an "Indonesian Village".
Dahnil, who is also an aide to Prabowo, said that the sovereign wealth fund Danantara could take the initiative in funding the construction of an Indonesian quarter in Mecca.
"There are a number of mechanisms including Danantara which will invest in building and running this Indonesian Village," Dahnil said in an interview with news channel Metro TV.
